For
listeners of the podcast “Serial,” the idea of true crime as a series has been
upped to a new level. Last season’s case about Adnan Syed’s conviction for the
murder of Hae Min Lee drew national attention, and arguably the added attention
contributed to a new look at the case for the legal system.
Now,
Netflix has entered the true crime genre with “Making
a Murderer,” a 10-part documentary about Steven Avery, who spent 18 years in
prison wrongfully convicted of one crime, but upon his release was quickly
arrested, charged, and convicted of murder. The series makes its debut on
December 18.
